Law Court Report: man in possession of unregistered weapon By Jacob Smith Posted on December 4, 2014 3 min read 0 0 526 Photo by Jacob Smith An Athens man was arraigned Wednesday morning in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas for an arrest on Nov. 18 of this year. William Johnson, Jr. was arrested on three counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and felonious assault after an attempt to rob another Athens man, Joseph McKnight. After taken into custody, Johnson was found in possession of a 9 mm Luger pistol, which was not registered to him. Witness accounts claim Johnson had used the weapon during the robbery. According to police reports, Johnson entered McKnight’s property where the 9mm Luger was used to threaten and cause serious physical harm to the victim, earning himself the felonious assault charge. Johnson is scheduled for sentencing later this month pending the results of his arraignment Wednesday morning. Also this week in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas, an Athens woman was arraigned Wednesday morning for an arrest on July 25, 2014. Skyler Kirkendall was arrested in connection to a growing operation that was found on the day of her arrest. Kirkendall was found to be cultivating over 200 grams of marijuana. The illegal cultivation of marijuana is a fifth degree felony. In addition to Kirkendall’s cultivation charge, she earned a charge of tampering with evidence by attempting to conceal evidence from authorities. Kirkendall is due back in court later this month pending the results of her arraignment. Another Athens man was arraigned Monday in connection to a theft that occurred at Wal-Mart on East State Street. Daine Ritchie was arrested on July 1, 2014, after stealing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from the store. Property or services stolen that are valued at one $1,000 or more, but less than $7,500, result in a fifth degree felony, which could result in jail time. Ritchie is scheduled to be back in court for a pre-trial hearing on Jan. 7, 2015.
