Education GSS readies for spring semester By The New Political Posted on December 3, 2013 2 min read 0 0 450 On Monday, Graduate Student Senate proposed six new resolutions, including the resolution for the new rules and procedures. The new rules and procedures are necessary because the old rules and procedures were not specific at all, said Ed Gaither, Vice President for Administration and Finance. The old rules and procedures were roughly six pages, and did not include details of each officer’s role. The new rules and procedures are roughly 45 pages, and details the roles and responsibilities of different committees and GSS as a whole. The new rules and procedures will be subject to change, said President Joel Newby, and will adjust according to what is needed for GSS in the future. A theme of this semester has been setting up a solid foundation for future GSS. “GSS has a big, productive and expensive spring semester ahead,” Newby said. “Fall semester has been a great set up.” Other resolutions included a resolution to approve new members and a resolution for public relations that would allow GSS to create more advertising to raise awareness for GSS next semester. Other presentations included Dr. Ryan Lombardi, Vice President for Student Affairs, who asked the body for suggestions about graduate housing. Common graduate student housing problems included not wanting to live near undergraduates, lack of silence, price and location. Dr. Lombardi is working on Graduate Student Housing. Any suggestions can be emailed to [email protected]. “With the new rules and procedures, GSS will have a very productive spring semester,” Newby said.
