Brose Goes: Dean Steps Down

The current dean of Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Jack Brose, announced to Student Senate that he would no longer be serving as the dean of the college after this school year.

Although Brose officially made this announcement to the school during his State of the College Address earlier in Fall Quarter, he felt that he should take some time during the Student Senate meeting to educate them on what exactly the college is responsible for.

Osteopathy refers to the branch of medical practice that emphasizes the treatment of medical disorders through the manipulation and massage of the joints, muscles and bones. Brose framed it as being one of OU’s most prestigious colleges.

“We want only the best to graduate from this college,” said Brose. “Today, I have doctors across the country tell me it is very easy to spot one of our alumni because of the care and compassion that they show towards their patients.”

The College of Osteopathic Medicine is one of OU’s most competitive schools. Out of the 4,000 high school graduates that applied for the college this year, 140 students were accepted.

With such a strict admission requirement, the students in the school get the best equipment for their studies. The college has its own clinical lab, operation room and surgery room. These rooms are all fitted with the high-tech equipment that they will have to use in their future jobs. Also, to make sure that these students get all the knowledge they require, the school has over 2,000 faculty members.

Although the college certainly has a lot of bills to pay off, money isn’t their largest concern considering the fact that the school received one of the largest donations ever given in the state of Ohio. Last year the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation donated $105 million to the college.

“This donation allowed for our college to transform in ways that I would have never thought to be possible,” continued Brose. “We plan on using some of the money to build a branch college in Dublin, Ohio so that we can accept and train more students.”

Another way that the college gets money is through its royalties that they receive from the inventions and innovative tools that they have produced. The school is number one in Ohio and number four in the nation in the amount of money they receive.

“We are very proud of our medical school and are very proud to be a part of Ohio University,” said Brose. “If you are interested in medicine, you will not find a better program anywhere.”
